Slobberknocking while wondering whatever happened to the Great Kabuki:
Last Wednesday, I was sitting in Cowboys Sports Cafe, attending yet another Guy's Night Out. Out of the fifteen GNOs held, I've been to seven of 'em. Each time I go there, I'm a witness to a phenomena unheard of in human nature -- the P1 Corner. All of the people you've heard of on the air when P1s are mentioned are in attendance in some form or another... Dr. Matt, Psycho the Clown, the fake Darren Routier, T-Bar (the nemesis of Dr. Matt), Skip from SMU (a.k.a. heritage hating Amit), Jasper, and so forth. You'll also see the staffs of Hardliners.Com and Musers.Com in deep pow-wow mode. But lately, the gatherings at GNOs are transforming into something more. Keep in mind that the only way most of us have met was through a little 5000-watt AM radio station, one that wasn't supposed to find an audience that would listen with any regularity. Yet the P-1 community has gotten to the point where we're a tight-knit bunch who will gossip, share tales of friends and family, and even make the occasional travel plan. So, being the proactive chap that I am, I've taken it upon myself to foster the process of getting the dedicated P-1, the commendable P-2, and the intermittent P-3 together. It's called the P-1 Roundtable. Named after the failed bit from the H.CNO, the Roundtable is an e-mail list where information can be easily disseminated, whether it be SPORTS-related, or the social agenda for the weekend can be set. In other words, it's a little of everything. You'll be a part of the ongoing Dallas Experiment, doping D/FW guys and dolls into submission. When the on-air staff praises the fans of the Little Ticket, they're not empty beatitudes. The fan following of the the Ticket is almost unheard of in commercial radio. I can name five promotion directors of local FM stations who would give their John Kruk to have half of the turnout to station remotes that the Ticket draws. So, if you're interested in signing up for the P-1 Roundtable list, head to http://www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/p1-roundtable and the process is painless. See you soon. |
